Shadow Play (4x19) spoilers

-due to the black-and-white theme, there has been some murmur about this being a potential flashback episode, however, Joseph confirmed this, “In follows the timeline, taking place in continuity with the series.”
-Joseph was able to confirm that Alison, Ezra (& Ezria) and Toby would all feature in 419!
-When asked about was ahead for one of our Liars, Hanna, in 419, Joseph tweeted, “Looking for answers, walking into danger.”
—-“I think everyone’s going to be excited about where they go in the episode.” and “I think you’ll find everything about the episode is intensified. If I get it right.”
-And when asked to describe Spoby in Joseph’s episode, he tweeted the following, “Beyond Halloween.”, “We thought they looked so good in those period costumes, we should push it further.” and confirmed there would be some Spoby love in 419!
—-“I’m smiling now as you speak to me about it. There are some great Paily moments in there. I think there are unexpected moments, and without digging too big a hole for myself, I think a lot of the Paily fans are going to be very satisfied by what we’re doing.”
—-“Every step of the process has been more exciting that the step that’s come before. When we started doing it, it was with a certain amount of trepidation, but we had a tremendous amount of support from ABC Family. We’ve been moving in this direction for some time, and the fans have been going with us. But I have to say, it turned out — I haven’t seen the edit yet, just based on looking at dailies —it came out amazing. Every time we sat down and looked at the monitors, because we were getting black and white images on the monitors, we were like, “Oh my god. That looks insane!” It’s arguable the most beautiful episode we’ve ever done. “

"They were! They were excited to do it. They were excited to look differently. They were excited to play slight variations of the characters they’ve been playing up until now. That excitement wasn’t restricted to the cast. Everybody on the crew was excited about it as well. Actually, we had one day where everyone dressed up like a film noir film crew. It was a wonderful experience to direct when everybody was having a great time!"
—-On the tone of 419, and whether it will have a different feel to PLL normally
"I think everyone is going to be at home with it. You will recognize it as an episode of Pretty Little Liars. It’s not alien. It’s just a slightly different approach. It’s certainly related to what I was able to do with the second Halloween episode. A lot of things have happened since that second Halloween episode. Ravenswood, to a large extent, comes out of the success of that episode. The audience was there for something that was a little scarier and had the supernatural aspects. It was an opportunity to build more events.
And I think the fact that Ravenswood looks different — not different in a way that’s jarring — it’s part of the message we wanted to send when we created the show. This is for the Pretty Little Liars fans. This is definitely for people who enjoyPLL. We want them to enjoy this show. But we didn’t want the exact same show. We wanted to tell slightly different stories in slightly different ways. The thing I always says is that we’ve got a lot of books in this library, and we want to read you a few different stories. We want to scare people, but we want to do it our way.”
—-On whether 419 will be a big episode for Spoby (as we know it will be one for Paily!)
"Yes! Yes it is. Again, much of 4x19 is about the relationships, as they’ve been created over the last three or years, but everything is heightened and intensified. That means the emotions you’re used to will be intensified. There will be an intense attraction between the two of them, but at the same time, these are two people who have kept secrets from each other, and that has had an affect on their personal trust level. There’s still things being worked out there, so there’s an intensity in the relationship that you’ll see between Spencer and Toby.
Everything gets turned up a little bit in this episode. When we decided to do this, one of the first things I said is if this is going to work, it can’t be a joke. It can’t be a gimmick. We have to do it seriously, and that means everything in the episode has to have a real emotional base — and it does. What’s happened is that because it’s in this slightly heightened world, with a different set of expectations and conventions, the affection between characters is intensified, the jeopardy is intensified, and their desire to take action is stronger. Everything just gets turned up a notch or two… or three… or four!”
-419 is set to be one of the most unique episodes of PLL ever and there has been lots of talk about it, and Joseph tweeted lots about it!
-“There’s never been a #PLL episode like it.”

The Carrie Diaries // Pretty Little Liars
I was re-watching season one of The Carrie Diaries earlier today and noticed that when they switch from the city back to Connecticut, the scene they use for the town is the same as the scene they use in Pretty Little Liars to show Rosewood. Did anyone notice this? Do you guys watch The Carrie Diaries?

Happy PLL day!
Happy Pretty Little Liars day! The much anticipated winter premiere of PLL is finally today!
We're looking forward to seeing how Ali and the girls react with eachother! We cannot wait! Learning that Queen-Bee, Alison Dilaurentis, is truly alive was so exciting and it gives a whole new twist to the show and opens up more possibilities of what the storylines may bring! The show is going to be pretty different now that Alison is alive.

Theories: Alison & the girls.
So we said that for every day up until the day of the PLL Winter premiere we would post a theory and, as tomorrow is the day that Pretty Little Liars finally returns to our screens, this is our final theory post and we're going to dedicate it to Alison and the girls, and what we think it will be like for them now that Miss Alison DiLaurentis is well and truly alive.
The dynamic of the group is going to be very different, that is obvious, they're going to be going from 4 girls who are as close as the fingers on your hand to a group of girls that have to come to terms with the revelation that Alison is still alive. There is going to be questions. There is going to be pressure on the girls - they obviously can't tell anyone. There is going to be -A, closer than the girls realise.
Alison: We think that she's going to be having a tough time in 4B. She's still on the run from -A/the person she's so afraid of. We're assuming she's going to be wanting to know who this person is, so we're guessing she's going to be searching for answers. Word is that she and Ezra have an altercation around 4x15/16 but that hasn't been confirmed. She might not stay alive so she's probably going to be very on edge and constantly on the look out.
The Girls: Aria - isn't very happy Alison is alive, according to the promo. Spencer and Hanna are seemingly going to be having a hard time trusting her. Emily is going to be struggling with her feelings toward Ali - as we can tell from the promo - how is she going to react to the news that the first girl she has ever loved is well and truly 100% ALIVE?!
We're looking forward to seeing what happens in the upcoming season. Pretty Little Liars returns on Tuesday, January 7 at 8pm on ABC Family.

Theories: Things we learn from the promos & sneak peeks
Ali: Alison doesn't know who is after her, and she's so afraid she might not be able to come back.
The girls: the girls are contemplating asking Jason if he knows Alison is really alive, so they aren't the only ones in charge of a secret. Emily is seen with an old picture of all 5 girls, and has her finger over Ali - she's clearly struggling with her feelings toward her. Spencer says the girls can't let Alison come between them. Emily is seen shouting 'DON'T' at Spencer. Aria is seen knocking a box out of Maggie's hands. Hanna shouts to Caleb 'Tell me what happened!'.
Aria isn't exactly happy about Ali being alive. Hanna finds a girl called Sara Harvey who disappeared around the same time Ali did and could be in Ali's grave. 'Ali, Ali Oxen-free, whoever finds her gets to keep her -A'. The girls are discussing whether Ali's been playing with them like she was -A.
Ezra/-A: According to Ezra, fear can be a very good thing.
Mona: Mona has bought Jenna's mustang (she's going blind again so she has no need for it anymore). Mona and Ezra meet, and she seems to hint at wanting him as her mentor.
Toby: Toby has been away for 2 weeks looking for answers about his Mother. He didn't get everything but found some.
Pretty Little Liars returns on January 7 at 8pm on ABC Family.
