Theory: EzrA

So we said that we would post a theory every day until the winter premiere of Pretty Little Liars (airing January 7, at 8pm on ABC Family) so our first theory post is going to be an EzrA post.

Is he actually -A or a member of the A team?
It's safe to say Ezra is 100% most definitely -A, or at least a member of the infamous A Team. It has been confirmed by the producers and writers of the show, and there's enough proof to prove it.

So what is the proof? (note- some of these are just clues and might not have been confirmed by the show)

  • -A writes some of their notes/messages by typewriter (e.g the one Ella Montgomery got in season one informing her of Byron's affair with Meredith). Ezra owns a typewriter (remember when we saw Wes using it in Ezra's apartment in season 3?).
  • The money Aria found in Ezra's apartment. We know -A took Alison's (or somebody in Ali's grave) body and Jason offered $50,000 for the return of the body, and conveniently Ali's body was returned and Ezra had $50,000 stashed away in his apartment. He was unemployed at the time so where would he get that money other than from this particular 'job'?
  • Ezra writes his A's on the blackboard exactly like -A does. In a couple of scenes Ezra is also seen standing in front of the blackboard so that only certain parts of what is on the board can be seen - some examples are 'But I was A' and 'The A'. This could've just been a coincidence but as Marlene says: there are no coincidences in Rosewood!
  • Nothing really bad has actually happened to Aria. Yeah, she's had a couple of not so good situations to deal with but if you think about it, she's never been at risk. Hanna was in the hospital because -A hit her with a car in season one and her Mother was accused of murder in season four. Spencer ended up in Radley because of one of -A's stunts, and was almost pushed off the cliff when Mona and herself had a bit of a scuffle in 2x25. Emily had a car crash into her living room, putting herself and her mother in danger, not forgetting she almost got chopped up by a sawmill in the season four summer finale. Aria was locked in a box with Garrett's dead body but she hasn't been physically/mentally injured like the other girls have. Even Mona has been physically injured when -A tried to strangle her in 4x02.
  • Everything started when Ezra started teaching in Rosewood. This makes us think that Ezra's first encounter with Aria wasn't just a coincidence, maybe he knew she was going to be there and had been following/looking into the girls for a while before.
  • Ezra was at Alison's funeral. As far as we know, Ali and Ezra never knew eachother, yes he could've just been there to support the others but he'd only just started teaching at Rosewood High. Maya had just moved there but she didn't feel the need to go to the funeral because she needed to 'support the others' like Ezra, she had only just met everyone.
  • Ezra likes to drink the same whiskey as seen in the -A clips at the end of the episodes. Is this just a coincidence? We think not!
  • Marlene King said in an interview that 'everything will be revealed in 3B' which could've been a reference to season 3B, but what a lot of people didn't pick up on is that 3B is Ezra's apartment number.
Why would he want to hurt the girls?
The only reasons that we can think of why Ezra would want to hurt the girls are:
  1. that Ezra has some kind of history with Ali and she did something to him that he thought all of the girls were in on - like when Cece thought that all of the girls were in on the stunt that Ali played to get her kicked out of college.
  2. He has something against Byron, after all he is Aria's dad. And Ezra went to Hollis which is where Byron teaches - is there a possibility that Ezra was Byron's student and they got into a disagreement over something?
  3. He has a mental/emotional disorder, like Mona, which causes him to seemingly have two personalities.
Does he actually love Aria? Or is it just an act?
It seems like Ezra loves Aria, but then if you take into account his -A status then it causes you to question it. If he loved her why would he be against her like that? Why would he want to hurt Aria and her friends? So now we're not sure if he actually loves her or not, we'll just have to wait and see!

Pretty Little Liars returns on January 7, at 8pm on ABC Family.
